Nyepi Day, or also known as The Day of Silence is a Hindu celebration that falls on March 14, 2021. In the Balinese culture and tradition, Nyepi Day is a day of fasting and meditation. Starting from 06.00 AM on March 14th to 06.00 AM on March 15th, Vehicles and machinery are prohibited for use and lights are forbidden. No flight can either enter or exit Bali Island, therefore, Ngurah Rai Ariport is closed. Shops are closed and people across the island are prohibited to leave their homes and hotels. In 24 hours, the island that is known for the island that never sleeps is in total silence. On the Eve of Nyepi Day is the “Pangrupukan”, where the locals build Ogoh-ogoh or demonic statues to be paraded along the streets. Ogoh-ogoh represents spiritual aims that are believed to purify the natural environment of any spiritual pollutants emitted from the activities of living beings.
